Update Rudr

Check for a newer compatible Rudr release, download its GitHub installer, then install and relaunch manually.

Check for an update

  1. Open Settings → Updates. Rudr checks for a release matching your installed app’s platform and architecture.
  2. Read the installed version and check result. Choose Check for updates to check again; repeated checks within 30 seconds reuse the recent result.
  3. When a newer version is available, choose View release notes to review changes or Download update to open the matching installer in your browser.

Installed builds also check at startup, after sign-in, and periodically while running. A notice links to Updates when a newer version is found. Checks need an internet connection, but no GitHub account. A browser opening or completed download does not mean the new version is installed. Rudr does not download or install updates in the background, and does not restart itself.

Install the downloaded update

  1. Finish active runs and save your files and drafts, then quit Rudr.
  2. On macOS, open the downloaded DMG and drag Rudr into Applications, replacing the existing copy. Eject the DMG and reopen Rudr from Applications.
  3. On Windows, when a Windows installer is available, run the matching installer and follow its prompts, then reopen Rudr.
  4. Open Settings → Updates and confirm the installed version matches the version you downloaded. Check your sessions, settings, and provider configuration before resuming work.

Do not delete Rudr’s app-data folders to update. Replacing the application is separate from deleting your data. The available-update message remains until you install and relaunch the newer app. Native upgrade and data-preservation validation is release-specific; see the release notes for the build you download.

Understand the check result

  • Up to date: the announced compatible version matches your installation.
  • Ahead: your installed version is newer than the announcement. Rudr will not offer a downgrade.
  • No release: no compatible installer has been announced. A missing Windows or architecture-specific release cannot be fixed by repeatedly checking.
  • Couldn’t check: check your connection and try again. Rudr can keep showing a previously found update with the failed-check message; its availability has not been reverified.
  • Unavailable: development builds and unsupported platforms cannot use these checks.

If your installed build predates this checker, download and install a newer build once from the website or public releases page. Older builds do not automatically gain this behavior.

Use the installer asset, not GitHub’s Source code archives. See installation, release notes, and Diagnostics for version-specific problems.

Instructions have been reviewed against the application source; native setup and account walkthroughs remain to be verified. Platform and provider limitations are described above.
