Download and install Rudr

Download an installer directly from GitHub, then choose guest setup or Rudr sign-in.

Get the desktop app

Download Rudr from GitHub releases.

  1. Open the public releases page. No GitHub account, access request, or approval is required to download a published installer.
  2. Read the release notes and choose an available installer matching your machine. On Mac, use arm64 for Apple silicon or x64 for Intel. The release notes state supported OS versions and signing/notarization status; this page does not assign or promise a future release.
  3. Download the installer asset. GitHub's Source code ZIP and tar.gz archives are not installers.

On macOS, open the DMG, drag Rudr into Applications, eject the DMG, and launch Rudr from Applications. For a qualified signed release, verify the expected Developer ID Application identity recorded with that release and follow the ordinary first-open Gatekeeper confirmation. An unidentified-developer, damaged-app, or unexpected-signer error needs investigation; do not remove quarantine or disable Gatekeeper to make a production installer open.

On Windows, run an available matching installer and follow its prompts. Installer availability is listed on GitHub; provider CLI support on a platform does not establish a Rudr desktop release.

During welcome setup, choose Continue as Guest (Local Offline Mode) or sign in to a Rudr account, then complete onboarding. Downloads remain public, and service access is separate. See what requires sign-in.

Update an existing installation

Older unsigned or manual-update Mac builds need a one-time DMG installation of a qualified signed updater-enabled build. Download it from public releases, finish active work, save files and drafts, quit Rudr, and replace the Applications copy. Older binaries do not gain new updater or menu code remotely.

Once using a qualified Mac build with in-app updates, open Settings → Updates. Checking, Download update, and Restart and install are separate actions. Later lets you continue working; ordinary Quit does not install a downloaded update. Windows continues manual installer replacement. See Update Rudr for full steps, unsaved-work blockers, offline/retry/incompatible states, and restart recovery.

Do not delete app-data folders. History, settings, durable drafts, projects/worktree associations, and browser state live separately from the replaceable bundle. After relaunch, confirm the installed version and check your saved work and configuration. A completed download does not prove an update installed. Keychain access and macOS permission prompts may need attention on the first signed run; prompt-free credential and permission continuity remains release-specific qualification, not a blanket guarantee.

Keep the two sign-ins separate

Rudr sign-in is optional for local use and enables the account features listed here. It does not sign you in to Claude Code, Codex, or another provider, and does not combine their subscriptions. Once the app opens, go to Settings → Code Harnesses and follow the guide for your chosen integration.

If access or installation stalls

If website downloads remain unavailable, check the public GitHub release assets for a compatible installer. If installation fails, record the platform, architecture, current/offered version, and displayed error. Do not install a different architecture or weaken system security to bypass an error.

Once Rudr opens, use Start your first task. A missing coding CLI is a separate issue covered by installation and detection recovery.

Instructions have been reviewed against the application source; native setup and account walkthroughs remain to be verified. Platform and provider limitations are described above.
