Clear Chat conversations
- Export any individual chats you want to keep through History.
- Open Settings → History.
- Under Chat history, choose Clear all conversations.
- Read Clear all conversations? and choose Confirm only if you intend permanent deletion, or Cancel to leave them intact.
- Check the resulting conversation list and completion message.
The action permanently deletes Chat conversations and their messages. It is not a retention-period selector, an archive action, or a backup operation. It does not mean every Code session and workspace file has been cleared.
Match data to its control
| Data | Relevant control |
|---|---|
| One Chat conversation | History export or delete |
| All Chat conversations | Settings → History → Clear all conversations |
| A Code session | Sidebar archive, restore, or delete |
| Synced account profile/preferences | Preferences → Cloud account data |
| Browser sign-ins and storage | Browser → Reset browser data |
| Repository files | Filesystem/Git workflow outside Chat-history deletion |
Archiving a Code session keeps it readable; deleting a source can make session references unavailable. A cloud account export excludes prompts, transcripts, keys, and local files. Resetting browser data clears that workspace profile and closes page tabs.
Before troubleshooting with deletion
Use refresh, filters, and diagnostics first. Clearing history is not a safe substitute for resolving a missing folder or authentication problem. This documentation did not perform destructive deletion to verify the flow; read the current confirmation carefully.
